  The 2012 Alumni Engagement Innovation Fund (AEIF) Is Coming in February!

The second annual Alumni Engagement Innovation Fund (AEIF) project competition will launch on February 27, 2012! AEIF offers the more than one million alumni of United States government-funded exchange programs the opportunity to partner with other alumni and U.S. missions abroad to tackle some of the world’s most complex issues. Yemeni Alumni Symposium Highlights Community Service

SANA’A, Yemen -- On January 12, 2012, approximately 100 U.S. Government-sponsored exchange program alumni attended an Alumni Symposium entitled “Serving Our Community,” hosted by the U.S. Embassy in Sana’a at AMIDEAST Sana’a. Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of Educational and Cultural Affairs, Ambassador Adam Ereli, kicked off the event via video. Speaking in Arabic, Ambassador Ereli spoke to the important role of the alumni community in fostering mutual understanding and promoting community service and volunteerism. The symposium also featured presentations of past community service projects conducted by alumni groups and presentations of alumni proposals for the Embassy’s community service incentive grant program.  Read More >



Alumni Association Cercle Andrew Young Leads Discussion on Investment in Africa
PARIS, France -- On January 20, 2012, approximately 160 people and two Pan-African TV networks gathered to hear prominent African intellectuals discuss investment in Africa at the Cercle Andrew Young’s (CAY) second conference held at the American University of Paris (AUP). Deputy Assistant Secretary (DAS) for the Bureau of African Affairs William Fitzgerald opened the conference by reasserting the U.S. Government’s commitment to economic growth in Africa, notably through the extension of the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA). Guinean Journalist Oumarou Barry (2010 International Visitor Leadership Program [IVLP] alumnus) led the discussion and moderated questions between African businessmen Lionel Zinsou (Benin/France), Paulo Gomes (Guinea Bissau), Pascal Agboyibor (Togo), and William Nkontchou (Cameroon) and an audience comprised of African businessmen, lawyers, journalists, academics, students and ARS IVLP alumni.  Read More >

State Alumni Member of the Month, John O'Loughlin Kennedy
 

John O’Loughlin Kennedy of Ireland has been selected as the U.S. Department of State’s Alumni Member of the Month for February 2012 in recognition of his entrepreneurial and humanitarian efforts that have improved lives around the globe. O’Loughlin Kennedy received a 1961 Fulbright Student Program scholarship to the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where he studied at the Graduate School of Business Administration.  He credits the Fulbright Program with
giving him the confidence and ability to affect positive change in the world.  Today O’Loughlin Kennedy is a thriving member of the Irish business community. Watch an interview with O’Loughlin Kennedy>
